Berberis

syn. barberry, Polish lemon, Gypsy lemon It is a historically common plant which is collected and eaten. It is an approximately 2,5 m tall thorny shrub which blooms abundantly with beautiful flowers in May/June. It has low habitat requirements. Fruits are suitable for human consumption: they are ovoid, red in wild grown forms and sour. Fruits are collected in September/October. Fruits were used in ancient Babylon and India.
