Cherry plum
syn. Prunus cerasifera
Often called Mirabelle plum (although, in reality, mirabelle plum is an entirely different species which can be distinguished by the fact that it does not separate easily from the kernel). Cherry plum grows on roadsides in abandoned gardens. It grows up to several meters tall and often forms shrubby hedges. Shoots have thorns. Fruits are small, yellow, pink or dark red and do not separate easily from the kernel. Fruits ripen in August and some varieties ripen at the beginning of September.
